We had such a great first day together yesterday! Our little learners navigated the new campus like pros. It was great to see so many smiling faces. We began our day with a soft start where students came in and explored all of the resources in our room, got to talk with each other and make new friends. I think that this is an organic process to returning to school, and I wanted students to start the day and the year with as little stress as possible. After we settled in, we played some games that involved, counting, colours, moving our bodies, and exploring our classroom. After some exploring, we went up to the top of the main school building for an assebly with all of the elementary students where we met our specialty teachers. Mrs. Angela then took us for a tour of the whole campus. We also took some time to draw self-portraits. At the ASA students draw portraits of themselves in the first and last week of school each year. These pictures are complied into their portfolios that travel with them from teacher to teacher through the years.. It is amazing to see how much improvement we see in a year, and even more amazing when you receive their portfolios after 5 years. We used mirrors to look at our features and talked about all of our smiling faces. Here are some of the smiles we saw yesterday! It was a wonderful first day. We look forward to many more excellent days in the future.
